August 17: Tejo Region Wine workshop
The Tejo wine region is one of the oldest wine regions in Portugal, it is known that around the Roman times vineyards were already present in the area.
Viticulture has a strong presence in the cultural heritage of the region. Next to other agricultural traditions like horse breeding and cork production. To many Portuguese, the Tejo region is known as the land of vineyards, olive groves, cork forests, Mertolengo cattle, and the famous Lusitano horses.
Wines from the region are characterised by the influence of Tejo river and a hotter climate than the coastal regions. The riverbank terroir combined with the native grape varieties like Arinto, Fernão Pires and Touriga Nacional give the region it´s own unique wine profile.
In this tasting, we’ll explore a range of wines that show the versatility of the region: Smooth and soft white wines, classic reds from Touriga and Castalão and some wines from international grape varieties.
Wines from the region tend to be known for their good price-quality balance. We’ll feature wines from all price ranges, to learn understand if this reputation is justified.
As always, the tasting will be relaxed and social, with space for questions, stories, and good conversation. Perfect for wine lovers who want to learn more about Portugal’s wine treasures in a fun, informal way.
