Festive Portuguese wines: From Espumante to Port
December 12 | 16:00 - 18:30
The festive season is the perfect excuse to open some special bottles. For our final tasting of the year, we will explore Portuguese wines that work particularly well for celebrations and festive dinners, starting with sparkling wine and finishing, of course, with Port.
Portugal may for many not be the first country that comes to mind when you think of sparkling wine, but, as you may know, there are some excellent espumantes being produced across the country. And that is only the beginning.
From aperitif to after dinner
We will taste seven different Portuguese wines, starting with bubbles before moving on to special white and red wines that deserve a place at the festive table.
Along the way, we will look at different regions, grape varieties and styles, but we will also talk about food. What works with richer festive dishes? Which wines are good partners for cheese? And what can you serve when you want something a little more special than your everyday bottle?
And we will dive into the world of sweet, strong and a Portuguese tradition: fortified wines like Madeira and Moscatel. We will finish with one of Portugal’s great contributions to the wine world: Port. We will look at what makes Port different from a regular wine, explore its style and talk about how and when to serve it.
Wines for the festive table
This tasting is not about finding one perfect Christmas wine. It is about discovering how many different options Portugal has to offer.
Expect sparkling, white, red and fortified wines, with plenty of inspiration for bottles to open over Christmas and New Year.
As always, we will taste the wines together and discuss what is happening in the glass, why the wines taste the way they do and what makes each style interesting.
What is included
7 special festive wines, including at least 4 fortified wines (e.g. Port, Madeira, Moscatel).
Bites are adjusted to the wines, as fortified wines can use a bit richer flavours.
The price is €50 pp and there is a maximum of 12 people for this event.
