Baga grapes in the vineyards of Prior Lucas, wine producer in Bairrada
Discover Bairrada
Bairrada is one of Portugal’s most characterful wine regions. Fresh whites, serious reds, and excellent sparkling wines all come from this cool Atlantic influenced region. Yet it is still not widely known outside the country.
In this tasting, we explore why Bairrada has such a strong identity, and why it is one of my favourite regions in Portugal.
Shaped by the Atlantic Ocean, Bairrada wines are fresher and more elegant than many expect. The cooler climate gives wines with precision, lively acidity, and strong ageing potential. At the heart of the region is Baga. One of Portugal’s most iconic grape varieties. It produces structured reds with depth, freshness, and the ability to age beautifully over time.
Bairrada is also a leading region for sparkling wine. Many are made with the traditional method and offer excellent quality and complexity. This tasting will give you a clear understanding of why Bairrada is such an exciting region to explore.
